Francis Agama, MD

I grew up farming alongside my siblings, parents, and other farmers in the countryside of Ghana. Hard work and community were part of our daily life, and those values still guide how I care for patients today with empathy, patience, and a focus on people, not just symptoms.

Early experiences caring for ill family members sparked my passion for medicine and set me on a path I have pursued with dedication. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana, then went on to teach high school Chemistry. That role, among others, earned me Ghana’s Presidential Award for Best Teacher Overall in 2006.

Motivated to deepen my scientific knowledge, I moved to the United States and completed Master’s degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry at Florida A and M University and the University of Florida. These experiences laid a strong foundation for my medical education at the American University of Antigua College of Medicine, where I also earned a Certificate in Health Professions Education.

Now in my final year of Family Medicine residency at Baptist Memorial Hospital, I am committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care that emphasizes prevention and patient empowerment. My goal is to treat the patient as a whole, not just the disease, and to offer the best care possible to everyone I meet. I am especially grateful for the mentorship and collaboration that continue to refine my skills and deepen my understanding of patient-centered care.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends. I also like playing table tennis and chess. When it comes to food, Ghanaian Jollof rice is unbeatable!
