Transitional Year
The Transitional Year Program at Baptist Memorial Hospital–DeSoto is a sponsored program of the Department of Family Medicine. Our urban‑based program offers a well‑rounded and comprehensive foundation for physicians beginning their postgraduate training.
Our goal is to provide each resident with a balanced educational experience across a broad range of medical disciplines, supporting informed specialty selection and strong preparation for subsequent residency training. Through a well‑defined curriculum and a wide selection of elective opportunities, residents are able to complete essential prerequisites for their next residency program, including but not limited to Radiology, Otolaryngology, Anesthesiology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
As an ACGME‑accredited program, we are committed to delivering an exceptional educational experience that integrates structured academics with hands‑on, direct patient care. Residents benefit from a supportive learning environment with close access to dedicated faculty, specialists, and subspecialists who are actively involved in teaching and mentorship.
The program consists of 13 four‑week rotational blocks. All residents are required to complete a designated core curriculum prior to graduation to ensure readiness for advanced specialty training.
