Welcome from the Program Director

Welcome to the Family Medicine Residency Program at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Desoto. Thank you for your interest in our program in Southaven, Mississippi. We are very excited about our newly established program starting July 2022.  Desoto County has become one of the 40 fastest-growing counties in the United States.  We are located 5 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee, and surrounded by several smaller communities in Mississippi. Being the 3rd largest city in the state, we have taken the opportunity to develop a unique Family Medicine program that gives each resident both urban and rural experiences all in one.  Our goal is to provide each learner with the tools they need to practice primary care in any facet they choose after graduation.  We hope our graduate physicians will stay and practice in the Mid-south area.

The Family Medicine program at Baptist Desoto will offer an unopposed Family Medicine opportunity with a valuable blend of inpatient and outpatient experience.  Residents will frequently rotate in two continuity clinics to develop hands-on experience, while fostering strong interpersonal relationships with their patients. Each resident will have the opportunity to care for patients in both a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center and a Baptist-owned medical clinic throughout their three years of training.  This systematic arrangement will provide each clinician with a wide array of knowledge in multiple clinical settings with various patient populations.

In keeping with the three-fold ministry of Christ -- Healing, Preaching, and Teaching -- we offer an outstanding balance of academic learning and hands-on experience while providing quality healthcare to all.  We are devoted to developing quality family physicians dedicated to their patients, community, and life-long learning.  The exceptional family physician is one who balances medical expertise, personal well-being, and community leadership. Our unprecedented curricular venture is designed to prepare every resident to be that exceptional physician for the next generation of medicine.

Sincerely,

Dr. Daniel Hogue
