Kayla Sweeten, MD

Greetings! I am Kayla Sweeten and I am so excited to serve as one of the Chief Residents this year. I am a proud Memphian who graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana as a Biology Pre-Med major.   My dedication and commitment to uplifting and empowering individuals led me to teach 6th grade science at Bellevue Middle School in Memphis. I simultaneously coached Girls Soccer and was the advisor for students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare. My students encouraged me to follow my own dreams, so I left education to earn my medical degree from American University of the Caribbean. During my time at AUC, I was able to complete my studies in Saint Martin, the United Kingdom, and Miami.

Aside from medicine, I love traveling with my family/friends, running with my beautiful dog, and movie nights with my amazing fiancé.  These experiences led me to embody the spirit of compassion, advocacy, and innovation in my pursuit of healthcare equity. I am truly honored that I get to complete residency at Baptist Desoto with these amazingly dedicated and diverse physicians. My time here has been more than I could have ever imagined and I look forward to staying on staff in the outpatient clinic setting.
